“Italy is an important growth market for Hyatt because it combines strong travel demand with a large base of independent hotels,” said Nuno Galvao Pinto, Vice President Development, EAME at Hyatt.
Later in 2026, the Thompson lifestyle brand will make its debut in Rome, offering a distinct blend of curated experiences and stylish accommodations. The hotel, located in a heritage building near the Colosseum and Roman Forum, will provide 69 rooms alongside three dining concepts. Its central location places it within walking distance of landmarks like Piazza Venezia, a historic square whose architectural quirks have earned it playful nicknames such as “wedding cake” or “typewriter.” This project underscores Hyatt’s strategy to cater to travelers seeking both convenience and cultural immersion.
Looking further ahead, Park Hyatt Taormina in Sicily will open in 2028, marking the brand’s second entry in Italy. Situated in the picturesque town of Taormina, this 121-suite hotel will embody a luxury residential aesthetic. Each room is expected to feature a private terrace, offering panoramic views of the Ionian Sea and the iconic Mount Etna. The choice of Taormina reflects its reputation as a hub for high-end travel, where history and natural beauty coexist seamlessly.
InterContinental Hotels & Resorts Expands Its Reach Across Key Markets
InterContinental Hotels & Resorts, part of the IHG group, has unveiled a series of new developments that highlight its commitment to Italy’s evolving hospitality landscape. One of the most anticipated openings is a dual-branded Crowne Plaza and Staybridge Suites hotel in Milan’s NoLo district, set for January 2027. This concept will include 67 Crowne Plaza rooms and 96 Staybridge Suites apartments, strategically located near transport hubs, tourist attractions, and Milan Linate Airport, ensuring ease of access for guests.

Elsewhere in northern Italy, the Garner brand will debut in Turin with the opening of Garner Hotel Turin Porta Nuova in mid-2027. This 57-key hotel will occupy a historic building opposite Torino Porta Nuova railway station, blending architectural heritage with modern comfort. The project aims to provide travelers with a seamless blend of luxury and local culture, reinforcing IHG’s strategy to expand its footprint in regions with strong tourism potential.
Meanwhile, Hotel Indigo Apulia Alberobello will open in 2028, nestled in the southern Italian region of Apulia.
