Data for this ranking was gathered from a range of sources, including the InterNation Expat Insider survey, OECD reports, World Bank statistics, the Global Peace Index, and Henley Global. By combining these metrics, the company created a comprehensive framework to measure how expat-friendly a region is.
Among these factors, employment access stands out as a critical component. Expats who can find work easily are more likely to establish themselves financially and socially. Similarly, healthcare availability ensures that newcomers can maintain their well-being without significant stress. Iceland emerged as the top destination for expats, scoring an impressive 8.94 out of 10. This Nordic nation excels due to its high foreign-born employment rate of 84.2%, streamlined bureaucratic systems, and strong social trust among residents. The combination of these elements creates an environment where newcomers can integrate smoothly, whether they’re starting a business or finding stable employment.
Luxembourg followed closely in second place, with its unique demographic makeup contributing to its appeal. Alongside Switzerland, Ireland is part of a group of European nations that collectively form the top 10 list, which also includes Czechia, Portugal, and Austria.
