Woman who sued Bill Cosby for sexual battery awarded $19.2 million
Bill Cosby’s Sexual Battery Lawsuit Results in $19.2 Million Verdict
A Southern California civil jury has awarded $19.2 million to Donna Motsinger, a woman who claimed Bill Cosby sexually abused her over half a century ago, according to her attorney. The lawsuit, filed in Santa Monica’s Los Angeles County Superior Court, alleges Cosby assaulted a server he met at a Northern California restaurant in 1972. The 88-year-old comedian denied the accusations, maintaining his version of events.
“This verdict sets a dangerous precedent, allowing old allegations without clear evidence to hold sway,” remarked a former representative of Cosby.
In a separate legal matter, Cosby was previously found guilty in Pennsylvania of three felony charges related to aggravated indecent assault in 2018. The conviction followed Andrea Constand’s 2004 claim of being drugged and assaulted. However, the state Supreme Court reversed the ruling in 2021, citing a lack of protection against self-incrimination. Cosby has steadfastly defended himself in that case, asserting he has never altered his stance or account.
