Prince Harry Sued for Defamation by Charity He Co-Founded

Legal documents reveal that a charity established by the Duke of Sussex has initiated a defamation lawsuit against him. The organization, which focuses on aiding youth in southern Africa, asserts that the action stems from what it describes as a damaging media campaign. This campaign, according to the charity, has led to significant disruption and harmed its public image.

A representative for Sentebale stated that the case aims to secure judicial intervention, protection, and compensation for the organization’s leadership. The claim, listed on 24 March, identifies Prince Harry and Mark Dyer as defendants in a defamation suit involving libel and slander. Dyer, a former trustee, is also being targeted in the litigation. As of now, neither Harry nor Dyer’s representatives have issued a response.

“Sentebale’s problems played out in the public eye, enabling a damaging dispute to harm the charity’s reputation, risk overshadowing its many achievements, and jeopardising the charity’s ability to deliver for the very beneficiaries it was created to serve,” said Charity Commission chief executive David Holdsworth.

The conflict arose from disagreements over the charity’s management. Prince Harry departed from Sentebale last year, joining a group of trustees in a dispute with the charity’s chair, Sophie Chandauka. Both sides had exchanged accusations regarding conduct and behavior, prompting an investigation by the Charity Commission.

The watchdog concluded in August 2025 that responsibility was shared between the parties, criticizing the public nature of the conflict. It claimed the dispute had undermined the charity’s efforts to support young people. Sentebale was founded in 2006 by Prince Harry and Prince Seeiso in memory of Harry’s mother, Diana, Princess of Wales, with a focus on helping children in Botswana and Lesotho affected by HIV and AIDS.
