Four arrested over murder of Scottish businessman in Kenya
Four Arrested in Connection with Scottish Businessman’s Murder in Kenya
A group of four men has been detained following the fatal killing of Campbell Scott, a 58-year-old Scottish business executive. His remains were discovered in a sack within Makongo Forest, approximately 60 miles from Nairobi, where he had been staying. The incident occurred on 24 February of last year, after Scott went missing following a scheduled meeting at the JW Marriott Hotel in Nairobi’s Westlands district.
Scott, a senior director at the credit rating firm FICO, had traveled to the city for a conference before vanishing. He was last seen the evening prior at Havana nightclub in Mombasa. Kenyan authorities believe he was taken to a residence in the Pipeline slum area, roughly 9.3 miles from his hotel, where he was held for a time to access his bank accounts. His body was later found in a pineapple sack with his hands tied in the forest.
Operation Leads to New Suspects
Officials announced the arrests as part of an intelligence-driven operation involving multiple agencies. The suspects, identified as Bernard Mbusu, Isaac Kinoti Kobia, Evans Muthengi Mutaki, and Kelvin Mwangi Njoroge, were apprehended in Ukunda, a coastal town 16 miles south of Mombasa. This follows a separate investigation into a violent robbery involving an American citizen in Nyali, a nearby area.
“An operation was conducted by DCI officers from the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CR&IB) Headquarters, working alongside SCCIO Nyali and SCCIO Msambweni (Ukunda).”
The suspects are now linked to Scott’s murder and additional violent robberies. During a search of their residence in Ideal Apartments, officials recovered stolen goods, including an HP laptop, mobile devices, various foreign currencies, credit cards, cheque books, and PDQ card readers. A post-mortem examination yielded inconclusive results, but experts noted the injuries were not severe enough to account for his death.
Initially, police questioned two individuals—a taxi driver and a nightclub attendant—who were last seen with Scott. Two men were arrested in March of last year, with one appearing in court on murder charges. Further inquiries led to the identification of three more suspects, completing the investigation into this case.
