Eamonn Holmes recovering in hospital after stroke

Eamonn Holmes in Hospital Following Stroke

GB News confirmed that broadcaster Eamonn Holmes is receiving treatment in a hospital after suffering a stroke. The incident occurred last week, with the channel stating it was “later confirmed he had suffered a stroke.” Holmes, 66, is described as “responding well to treatment,” and his colleagues at the network have expressed hopes for a quick recovery.

A Career Across Broadcast Platforms

With a broadcasting career spanning several decades, Holmes has held prominent roles on various networks. He previously presented on UTV’s Good Evening Ulster, then joined GMTV for its debut in January 1993, where he stayed until 2005. Later, he co-hosted Sky News’ Sunrise and ITV’s This Morning with Ruth Langsford, whom he married in 2010. In 2024, the couple announced their decision to end the marriage and pursue divorce.

“Eamonn is a loved member of the GB News family,” said CEO Angelos Frangopoulos.

While at GB News, Holmes co-hosts the breakfast show with Ellie Costello. Fellow presenter Alex Armstrong will temporarily replace him during the next week. The broadcaster has faced prior health challenges, including spinal surgery, a double hip replacement, and difficulties with mobility, such as using a scooter.

Understanding the Stroke

A stroke happens when blood flow to a part of the brain is interrupted, as explained by NHS guidance. Symptoms may include face weakness, arm weakness, or speech issues. Immediate medical attention is crucial if a stroke is suspected.

Earlier in his career, Holmes was honored with an OBE in the 2018 New Year’s Honours List for his contributions to broadcasting. His recent hospitalization marks another chapter in his long and varied professional journey.
