Buckingham Palace ‘gardener’ removes Virginia Giuffre memorial plaque in just 90 minutes
A video capturing the sudden removal of a memorial plaque dedicated to Virginia Giuffre, a former accuser of Prince Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, has gone viral. The plaque, placed in a public park near the palace, was swiftly taken down by a worker in high-visibility attire, who used a litter picker to clear it within a short span of time.
The plaque, installed by activists from the group Everybody Hates Elon, was part of a larger effort to highlight the bravery of survivors who confronted Jeffrey Epstein, the billionaire sex trafficker. The group had recently staged a prank at the Louvre, where they disrupted the display of Epstein’s portrait, as a symbolic act to re-centre the victims in the public eye.
“Of course we are disappointed. We feel Andrew and the whole world should be made to remember Virginia’s bravery forever,” said a spokesperson for Everybody Hates Elon. “Billionaires and their mates think they can get away with anything. They think ordinary people will never fight back – let alone win.”
Memorial plaque’s message
The signs erected on royal grounds carried a poignant message: “In honour of Virginia Giuffre, whose decades of campaigning exposed sexual abuse by powerful men like Jeffrey Epstein and former prince Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.” It added, “Her bravery and determination brought the truth to light. May she be remembered long after her abusers are forgotten.”
Virginia’s legacy and death
After enduring years of depression and trauma, Giuffre passed away in her Australian home on April 25, 2025. Her family described her as a “fierce warrior in the fight against sexual abuse,” though they noted that the “toll of abuse… became unbearable.”
Giuffre’s long-time publicist, Dini von Mueffling, praised her as “one of the most extraordinary human beings I have ever had the honour to know.” She highlighted Giuffre’s qualities: “Deeply loving, wise, and funny, she was a beacon to other survivors and victims,” von Mueffling stated. “It was the privilege of a lifetime to represent her.”
“Her courage pushed me to fight harder, and her strength was awe-inspiring,” remarked Sigrid McCawley, Giuffre’s lawyer.
Activists’ bold move at the Louvre
Just days prior, a small team of British activists from Everybody Hates Elon had infiltrated the Louvre’s heightened security to hang an unflattering image of Andrew’s arrest at the same gallery as the Mona Lisa and Venus de Milo. The mastermind behind the operation told Metro: “It was all pretty fine getting it through. It was just in a bag and hidden under another picture.”
The portrait remained for about 15 minutes before being removed, with staff initially amused by the stunt. The group’s actions at the Louvre were part of their ongoing campaign to shame Epstein’s allies and draw attention to Giuffre’s story.
