Michael Vaughan makes India vs England prediction for T20 World Cup semi-final
England and India will face off in a high-stakes T20 World Cup semi-final in Mumbai on Thursday, with the winner set to secure a place in the final on Sunday. Former England captain Michael Vaughan has hinted that the hosts might upset the odds, despite India’s status as the tournament’s top contenders.
India, who dominated the group stage with a perfect four-match win streak, faced a setback after a heavy loss to South Africa. However, they bounced back with victories over Zimbabwe and the West Indies, securing their spot in the semi-finals. England, meanwhile, advanced through the Super 8 group with three wins and one draw, showcasing resilience in their campaign.
“England seem to have found a way of winning,” Vaughan shared on the Test Match Special podcast. “Even though their match against New Zealand was a dead rubber, the effort to secure victory was remarkable. Their fielding has been outstanding, and their ability to react swiftly between the wickets is a real strength.”
VAUGHAN also praised England’s spin bowling contingent, suggesting it outperformed India’s. “Adil Rashid remains one of the elite white-ball bowlers, and his support from Liam Dawson and Will Jacks has been exceptional. The trio has dominated the tournament, and Chakravarthy hasn’t been as effective,” he noted.
Despite opener Jos Buttler’s struggles, scoring single figures in five consecutive matches, England have still made it to the semi-finals. Vaughan analyzed Buttler’s form, stating: “When a player isn’t performing at their best, you often look to their technique. Jos is a hand-eye type, and he needs to focus on tracking the ball directly to the bat. His ramp shots, which he’s been missing, could be the key to unlocking this pitch.”
Other semi-final clash
Meanwhile, South Africa and New Zealand will compete in the first semi-final at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Wednesday. Both teams are aiming for their first-ever T20 World Cup title, while England and India seek their third.
