Italy aid plan targets transport, farming and fishing

Usagevpn.com – The Meloni government approves aid for transport, farming and fishing businesses as fuel-cost protests disrupt deliveries, port activity and food supplies in parts of southern Italy. The emergency package was approved after truckers in Sicily and Calabria halted work, putting added pressure on businesses and households.

The stoppages included the suspension of food-product transport, showing the close link between road haulage, farms, processors, retailers and consumers. Although some operators began restarting deliveries after the decree was signed, protests continued and some vessels remained inactive over diesel costs.

Fresh-food producers face immediate disruption

The effects were particularly visible near Naples, where interrupted deliveries prevented milk from reaching dairies and complicated the distribution of finished buffalo mozzarella. Officials estimated losses of around €3 million in 24 hours.

Perishable food production depends on reliable logistics. Milk must reach processing facilities quickly, while finished mozzarella cannot be stored indefinitely. The disruption therefore affected producers as well as the companies responsible for moving goods to customers.

€60 million for agricultural fuel

A key part of the measures approved when the Meloni government approves aid for transport is €60 million for agricultural fuel costs. Agriculture Minister Francesco Lollobrigida said the money is expected to be distributed rapidly through Agea, the agency involved in agricultural payments.

The funding is intended to help cover the purchase of about 121 million litres of fuel. Eligible businesses may receive up to 45 cents per litre.

“After a first intervention that covered the initial part of the year, this measure runs until 15 October, compensating the companies that have bought agricultural fuel,” Lollobrigida said.

The Agriculture Ministry is expected to publish application procedures and deadlines. Applicants will need documents proving petrol or diesel purchases, and payments are expected to be sent to beneficiaries’ bank accounts within 30 days after the required paperwork is received.

For farmers, fuel remains a major operating expense, used for machinery, harvesting, supplies and the movement of products through the food chain. The scheme is focused on reimbursing qualifying purchases made during the covered period.

Government seeks to keep supplies moving

Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said the government had reached an understanding with road-haulage associations and was making funds available while introducing further support for farmers and fishermen. The Meloni government approves aid for transport while also seeking to prevent shortages and price speculation.

“The government listens to those who demonstrate peacefully and works to provide concrete responses,” Meloni wrote on X.

Meloni said she asked Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi to address requests from haulage, farming and retail groups for safeguards that keep people and goods moving. The goal is to protect supply routes while avoiding disruption to essential daily services.

Tensions nevertheless remain high. Deputy Infrastructure and Transport Minister Edoardo Rixi said officials had requested consideration of a back-to-work order if blockades continue, citing pressure on essential services, remote school lessons and fuel shortages in areas including Campania.
