Park rangers took him into protective custody and transported him to the stork protection centre in Krutyń. After a period of recovery, he was returned to his traditional nesting site — though the final stretch of that journey was covered not by wing but by car. He subsequently made a full recovery, resumed tending the nest, and went on to what proved his most prolific breeding season to date.

Ornithologists tracking Krutek’s current southward migration do not yet know whether he will replicate the exact corridor he followed on previous journeys.
