Gracie Abrams The Odyssey and silhouettes – Europe’s cultural landscape is buzzing with activity as the week unfolds. From cinematic adaptations of ancient epics to groundbreaking art exhibitions, there’s something for every enthusiast. Whether you’re drawn to the silver screen, live music venues, or gallery spaces, this period offers numerous opportunities to engage with history and contemporary creativity in meaningful ways.
Cinema and Television
Christopher Nolan’s highly anticipated adaptation of Homer’s legendary Greek epic poem has generated tremendous excitement across the continent. Despite some controversies involving Elon Musk and discussions about family dynamics, anticipation for The Odyssey continues to build. The ensemble cast includes Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, and Robert Pattinson among others. Additionally, audiences can look forward to Ludwig Göransson’s musical score for the film.
On the television front, Apple TV has launched an exclusive series featuring Anya Taylor-Joy as Lucky, a character fleeing both the FBI and a powerful crime boss after a failed robbery. Adapted from Marissa Stapley’s novel, the premiere episodes arrive on July 15, 2026, with subsequent installments following weekly. Meanwhile, Amazon Prime’s action-comedy Ride or Die offers a different flavor, chronicling two best friends portrayed by Hannah Waddingham and Octavia Spencer as they navigate a European road trip while encountering assassins, criminals, and authorities alike. This series also debuts internationally on July 15, 2026.
Exhibitions and Museums
Art enthusiasts have much to celebrate this week. The Tate Modern in London is hosting its first-ever comprehensive exhibition of Ana Mendieta, the award-winning Cuban-American multidisciplinary artist. Spanning multiple museum spaces, the showcase presents 120 pieces including photographs, paintings, sculptures, and remastered films that trace Mendieta’s fascination with body silhouettes within natural environments. Visitors embark on a journey through her life and creative vision.
In Paris, the Grande Halle de La Villette transforms into a 3,600 square meter celebration of urban artistry. Beyond the Streets: The Legends of Street Art and Graffiti demonstrates that graffiti transcends vandalism to become legitimate art. The exhibition displays over 100 internationally recognized artists alongside archival materials and historic murals. Attendees can also acquire limited-edition merchandise featuring the showcased artists’ creations.
Paris visitors have until July 20, 2026, to experience Michelangelo and Rodin: Living Bodies, an extraordinary partnership between the Louvre Museum and the Musée Rodin. This collaboration unites 200 masterworks from both celebrated sculptors in one remarkable presentation.
Music and Festivals
Live music remains a cornerstone of European cultural life. The Benicàssim International Festival, known as FIB, continues to attract stellar talent from diverse genres including pop, rock, electronic, and indie. Last-minute tickets remain available through the festival’s official website.
Lyon’s Les Nuits de Fourvière enters its 80th edition at its historic setting. While performances by Lorde, Charlotte Cardin, and Asaf Avidan have sold out, audiences can still secure tickets for Wet Leg and Keith Jarrett’s The Köln Concert, among other offerings.
Recording artists also have new releases to celebrate. Gracie Abrams prepares to unveil her third album, Daughter From Hell, on July 17. Produced by Aaron Dessner, who collaborated on her earlier works, the album represents a fresh chapter for the singer-songwriter. She shared her feelings at the Met Gala:
“It’s the introduction to this new chapter, and I feel grateful and relieved that this is the introduction.”
The lead singles, Hit The Wall and Look at My Life, have already garnered attention.
Also arriving on July 17 is trip-hop pioneer Tricky with Different When It’s Silent, his first album in six years. The opening track, Out Of Place, is currently streaming across all major platforms.
