Two in hospital after bus crashes down embankment on A9
Bus Accident on A9 Leaves Two in Hospital
A collision involving a bus occurred on the A9 near Aviemore, resulting in two individuals being hospitalized. The incident happened shortly after 9:40 on Sunday when the vehicle left the road close to Granish Junction. Emergency services, including firefighters, ambulance teams, and police, were quickly dispatched to the scene.
The bus, an electric model operated by Ember, was traveling from Inverness to Edinburgh. Following the crash, the A9 was closed for approximately two hours before reopening. Visuals from the site revealed the bus partially lodged on a grass-covered slope, with multiple responders attending to the situation.
George Rennie, who was on a separate Ember route from Glasgow to Inverness, described the chaos. “As we neared the junction, the driver was instructed to reverse. We then learned that unharmed passengers would be accommodated on our bus to evacuate the scene,” he explained.
Rennie added that about seven passengers boarded the vehicle before it reached Aviemore Train Station. “Most of them had minor injuries like cuts and bruises, but a few were more seriously affected,” he noted. He mentioned that the coach tilted during a turn, causing a sudden impact that startled passengers.
“Passengers initially thought nothing was wrong until a loud crash echoed. The front window shattered, and several people collided with seats,” Rennie recounted. He emphasized that only half of the occupants were wearing seatbelts, leading to varied degrees of injury.
A representative from Ember confirmed the incident, stating it involved a single vehicle collision on 12 April. “We extend our gratitude to the emergency services for their swift response and are fully cooperating with ongoing investigations,” the spokesperson said.
