One Dead After Tourist Bus Crashes in Canary Islands

Emergency services confirmed that a bus transporting British tourists plunged into a ravine on La Gomera, one of Spain’s Canary Islands. The incident resulted in one fatality and 27 injuries, according to local authorities. The group was en route to the San Sebastián de La Gomera dock, where they planned to board a ferry to Tenerife.

Twenty-eight individuals were aboard the vehicle, comprising 27 British visitors and the driver. A post on X by 112 Canarias, the regional emergency service, detailed that three injured passengers were in critical condition. Most were transported to Hospital Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe, located on the island’s eastern side, while two seriously hurt individuals were airlifted to hospitals on Tenerife.

Rescue teams deployed a medical helicopter and five ambulances to the crash site. The bus was traveling along the GM-2 road, which features steep slopes and sharp turns. El Mundo reported that the vehicle fell from a height of approximately 10 meters, with an image shared by emergency services showing the accident occurring near a hairpin bend.

Resort Connection and Regional Response

Head of emergency operations in La Gomera, Héctor Cabrera, told public broadcaster TVE that the bus passengers were staying at a resort on the island. President of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, expressed solidarity with the victims and their families in a statement.

“The bus passengers were staying at a resort on the island,” said Héctor Cabrera.

La Gomera, the second smallest of the Canary Islands, is renowned for its hiking trails and volcanic landscapes. The island’s ferry service to Tenerife takes roughly 50 minutes, making it a convenient yet scenic route for visitors. The Canary Islands Tourism Observatory noted that around 3.83 million Brits visited the region in 2025, with approximately 70,000 choosing La Gomera as their destination.
