Oscars red carpet: Stars and fashion in pictures
If the Oscars gave out an award for best dressed, it would be the most hotly contested prize of the night.
Hollywood’s biggest stars made a striking statement as they strutted across the glittering red carpet for the Sunday ceremony in Los Angeles.
Star Highlights
Chase Infiniti, starring in One Battle After Another, emerged as both an actress and a fashion trendsetter this year. She opted for a lavender custom Louis Vuitton gown, showcasing her unique sense of style. Meanwhile, Rose Byrne, in contention for If I Had Legs I’d Kick You, dazzled in a black Dior dress adorned with a complex floral embroidery.
Jessie Buckley, the favorite for best actress, chose a red and pink ensemble for the event. This marked a departure from her usual muted color palette. Wunmi Mosaku, nominated for best supporting actress in Sinners, wore a shimmering gown with a cut-out shoulder, elegantly highlighting her baby bump.
Renate Reinsve, nominated for Sentimental Value, continued her Louis Vuitton allegiance throughout the awards season. Her Oscar look featured a simple yet eye-catching custom red design by Nicolas Ghesquiere. Demi Moore, returning after last year’s nod for The Substance, went all out in a Gucci creation with feathers.
Emma Stone arrived in a dazzling oyster Louis Vuitton gown, while Kate Hudson made a nostalgic appearance alongside her mother Goldie Hawn. This was the first time in 56 years they had shared the red carpet together, as Hudson was up for best actress in Song Sung Blue.
Fashion Statements
Teyana Taylor balanced her performance in One Battle After Another with a black-and-white Chanel custom dress. Leonardo DiCaprio, another star of the film, chose a traditional black tuxedo. Timothée Chalamet, in the running for best actor in Marty Supreme, embraced an all-white look.
Michael B Jordan, also a contender for best actor, was joined by Paul Mescal, who walked the carpet with his girlfriend Gracie Abrams. The director Chloe Zhao, known for Hamnet, wore a dramatic black outfit with gaping bell sleeves and a veil by Gabriela Hearst. Li Jun Li, starring in Sinners, turned heads with a sleek Gaurav Gupta creation.
Amy Madigan, nominated for best supporting actress in Weapons, made her return after a four-decade gap since her last Oscar nod for Twice in a Lifetime. Gwyneth Paltrow, a Marty Supreme actress, arrived in an embellished black gown. Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas, one of four nominees from Sentimental Value, wore an elegant white princess gown by Givenchy.
Paul Mescal’s presence on the carpet was accompanied by his girlfriend, singer Gracie Abrams. Mikey Madison, last year’s best actress winner, paired her velvet gown with the red carpet’s iconic hue. The KPop Demon Hunters’ music stars Rei Ami, Ejae, and Audrey Nuna took the stage in their own red carpet appearance, preparing for their performance of the mega-hit Golden.
Behind the Scenes
Former Oscar winner Nicole Kidman, in a Chanel gown, was set to present an award during the ceremony. Jacob Elordi, nominated for best supporting actor in Frankenstein, joined the event. Kieran Culkin, who dominated the supporting actor category last year for A Real Pain, returned as a presenter for this year’s Oscars.
Spike Lee, accompanied by his wife Tonya Lewis Lee, showcased his signature style with a purple fedora suit and matching bow tie. A silver cassette bag completed his ensemble. Bella Thorne chose a black feathered cuffs design paired with a sheer slip. The final mention of Maggie O’Farrell, nominated for co-writing the Hamnet script, was left unfinished in the original text.
